Limit TV Time

Many experts recommend that children watch no more than ten hours of television (including videos) a week. By putting a limit on the time spent watching, you will make time available for more rewarding activities and for schoolwork.

Decide together how much television your child will watch. Have him list programs he wants to watch. From the choices, make a viewing schedule and stick to it.

Some families set a daily limit on total "screen time" (combined TV, computer, and video-game time). Consider making one day a week Z Day, for "Zero Screen-Time Day.

Provide alternatives to TV viewing, such as board games, books and magazines, and craft projects. Do not put a TV set in your child's room.
