| The Hopi are one of the oldest Indian tribes in the Southwest. They settled in the northeastern part of Arizona before 1350. One of their villages is around 1,000 years old. Early the Hopi used irrigation to grow corn, beans, and squash. They used corn in every meal. They also grew corn in the colors of yellow, red, blue, white, and purple. They were some of the first to fire pottery with coal. The Hopi believed their creator was leading them to the Southwest. They tried to keep the land healthy so they could have good harvests. Modern-day Hopi still follow many old traditions. |
