| Surveillance You need a deck of cars and at least three players for this game. The object of the game is to get four of the same card (4 sevens, 4 kings, 4 aces, etc.) or to notice when someone else does. One player shuffles the deck and deals four cars to each player. The remaining cards are placed in a pile to the dealer's right. All players look at their cards and choose one to discard. The dealer draws a card from the pile and decides which of his five cards he will pass on. At the signal, all the players pass their discarded card face down to the left. Players look at their new card. The dealer discards one card, draws another, and play continues. When someone gets four of the same card, that player quietly puts her cards on the table while continuing to pass and receive cards. As players see that someone has laid her cards down, they do the same, even if they don't have four matching cards. The last person to put her hand down loses that round. p p Spoons Another way to play Surveillance (see above) is to use spoons. Put metal spoons in the middle of the table for each player except one. For example, if you have five people playing, place four spoons in the middle of the table. Play goes exactly as described above except instead of putting your cards down, you quietly take a spoon and place it in front of you. The person who doesn't get a spoon loses that round. (SAFETY NOTE: do not use knives or forks!) This is a great game for family gatherings. If you can get a large group of people to play, use two or more decks of cards. |
